Emily Bea has been riding horses from a very young age (see below, right). She credits her love of horses to her father, who worked as a horse trainer for many years. Emily credits her love of the written word to her mother, who is the diligent grammarian Emily wishes she could someday be.
From the very beginning, Emily knew she wanted to have a job that somehow involved horses. It wasn't until halfway through her time at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee that she realized she could apply her passion for writing to her love of horses.
Thus began her campaign to become a horse journalist. Though her classmates are no doubt baffled by the definition of equine journalist, Emily has stubbornly insisted that is the path she will follow. This project marks the first time that Emily was able to include horses into her academic work and she loved every minute of it.

Emily is a recent graduate from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She majored in journalism with an emphasis on print and online writing. Her minor is business German.
In addition to her work for Media Milwaukee, a student-driven news site at UWM, Emily writes a horse themed blog for the Sussex Patch Site.
Her equestrian resume includes riding hunters and jumpers, judging horse shows, and serving for two years as President of the equestrian club at UWM. In addition, she rode on the school's IHSA team for four years.
This piece has strengthened her resolve to write about horses professionally and she hopes to write for an equine publication and someday start her own.
Emily would like to thank everyone who helped with this piece, from inspiration to feedback. She would also like to thank the mustang trainers for allowing her into their lives during the competition, most especially Sandi, Jaci, Nancy and Jessica.
